About Us

We are a local, independent, family owned and run Scottish business.

Swish was founded by Dougie McKinna in 1994, with the opening of a small shop at 44 Victoria Street, selling vintage clothing. Before that, agency work in clothing distribution had helped developed a network of brands and suppliers. As the business grew, new leases were taken on at 24 and 22 Victoria Street between 1996–1997, gradually shaping the combined retail space that still exists today.

Alongside retail, the late ’90s and early 2000s saw Swish expand into distribution, supplying printed Japanese themed T-shirts and fimo jewellery across the UK and Europe. Luke McKinna joined the business in 2000, bringing a sound commercial instinct and prompting a rebrand from WKE to Swish, and later the opening of a store in Cockburn Street in 2005, which evolved into a custom printing and graphic apparel store.

After a financial crisis in 2013, Swish rebuilt with a new, more modern and resilient business model. The print workshop was relocated and expanded in 2017 to St Leonards Street, and further improvements were made to the Victoria Street store after moving our storage and office space to the same location. Over the years the business weathered multiple challenges—including volcanic ash grounding flights to extensive local construction that reduced footfall. On many occasions through the 00’s our ship seemed to be heading for the rocks—yet survived through determination, skills, adaptability, and hard work.

Today, Swish is stronger than ever and grateful for the journey. The mission remains simple: to offer a unique mix of great products in a welcoming, energetic environment where staff and customers feel good, informed, and connected.

Onwards – and upwards.
